Difficult People

Have you ever wished that there was a healthy way to let frustration out so that it doesn’t build up to the point where you’ll explode and combust? Well after pondering this for some time myself, I have come up with 10 steps to achieve and re-gain the peace and contentment while dealing with difficult people.

1. Kill them…with kindness that is. This one works 80% of the time. At first it will be difficult task since all you’ll want to do is scratch their eyes out but as you develop a kind heart you’ll be able to break the person and hopefully drive them insane, just kidding. You can turn a bad situation to your advantage by disarming people with kindness and allowing them to feel important. “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked” (Luke 6:35 NIV)

2. Keep a positive outlook on life, a time will come when this person is no longer a part of your life. “The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)

3. Imagine that everyone was put on earth to teach you something useful. Be patient with yourself. Look at each exchange, whether good or bad, as a lesson on how to deal with others.

4. When someone calls you a liar or other derogatory term of your character remain calm and collect your words before you respond. Sometimes people will test you to see how you will respond and re-act to their words. Surprise them be making calm comments and don’t bother arguing with them, they want you to re-act with anger. Control yourself if you find your feelings getting too intense. Remember that you have the option to leave. “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

5. Recognize that it is useless to argue with them. If possible, plan ahead and prepare your tactics. Think about the result you want. Stay calm and unemotional. Be straightforward and matter-of-fact

6. Realize that the person must be feeling very insecure about themselves. They might have family issues or home problems that you don’t know about. There may be more than meets the eye, things that they themselves may be struggling with.

7. Do not expect them to change. That’s the way they want to be. Even if they were raised better. You can not change them

8. Some people are dumb. Many people are smart, many people are rude. It’s the way of life. Accept that and remember not to allow yourself to fall into their rudeness.

9. Pray for them. Matthew 5:4 says, “But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”

10. Know that you will make it through and that one day you can look back and see things you have learnt from the situation. Transform every stumbling block into a building block. There have always been and always will always be “difficult people” so learning how to deal with them is the first step to a life towards peace and having less people-stress. My final piece of encouragement comes from Philippians 3:14 which says, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Moving Adventures!

Yesterday the movers came to load up the truck. It took all day and yet it was somehow entertaining to watch. There were 3 guys, the "circus leader", the "clown", and the "grunt".

10 Qualities I Want in a Husband.

I’ve made a list of 10 qualities/things I want in my future husband. I have put a decent amount of time into coming up with this list and have come to the conclusion that this is what truly matters. Sure, having a guy who puts the toilet seat down and cooks supper would be nice but I have come up with this basic list and I believe that as long as these ten things are a match that any relationship can work. All relationships have bumps, highs, and valleys but how you get through those bad times reveals what kind of a person you are and as long as both people have God as their core and center things can be resolved in a godly, loving way.

1.The first thing he needs is a deep love for God and his Creation and put God as first priority in his life. God is the center, the REASON for living. He seeks wisdom and guidance from God and is continuing in his spiritual life. Calls himself a Christian, a born again believer, dedicated to God and obedient to His will for his life and will be the spiritual leader for our family unit.

2. Is kind and respects me. Loves me for who I am and accepts me along with my faults. He has to bring out the good in me and I’m a better person with him.

3. Has the same beliefs, morals, and values as me and we agree on things like how many kids and how to raise them.

4. Is physically attracted to me and vise versa and has eyes ONLY for me. Must connect emotionally with me.

5. Is funny and makes me happy.

6. Will stand up for me. Is proud to call me his wife.

7. Wants to spend lots of time with me and we get along well.

8.Trusts me and we keep no secrets from each other. Open and honest with each other.

9. Gets along with my family (even though they’re crazy) and family is important to him.

10. Will share with me both sorrows and joys. Comfort each other in sad times and celebrate with each other in happy times. Will be my encouragement and rock and I will be his.

I will not settle for anything less than God’s best for me and will patiently wait for his timing and his perfect plan for my life.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper and not harm you; plans to give you hope and a future”

One day when I get married I want to stand up and publicly declare my love and commitment in God’s presence and know in my heart that it is ordained by God and that I am with the one that he has created to complete me.

And what do I do now? In this time of singleness I want to become the woman a man like this deserves. A godly woman fully dedicated and obedient to God and following His will.

2008 Resolutions

There's something magical about starting a new year. It's like a clean slate, a fresh beginning, a second chance. The last year is only a memory, the good, the bad, and everything in between is all just in the past. A year that is empty and waiting for you to make memories and have sucess. It's a time to start new and make a mark in this world. Any problems you encountered in the previous year are pushed aside and you have high hopes for a better year. We are optimistic and excited to welcome in the new year.

We commit ourselves to certain goals we hope to achieve in the coming year. Things like spending more time with family, losing weight, quit smoking, learning something new, saving money, ect. All of which are achievable with a little effort and commitment. Sadly very few people will actually make their resolutions a habit or lifestyle.
Research shows that 25% of people will abandon their resolutions after the first week. Three months later over half have given up all together. Fewer than 10% of Resolution Makers will achieve them.

How can we beat the odds?

Most goals require lifestyle changes and overcoming bad habits to create new ones. We have to realize that it will be tough, we can't just wake up January 1st and expect everything to be a walk in the park.

Steps to achieve your goals:

1. Write them down. It gives you a higher chance of success if you write your goal and how you plan on reaching it, step-by-step, your "game plan". Be specific. If you want to save money for example distinguish between your needs (shelter, food, clothing, and transportation) and wants (things that enhance our lives, movies, excess clothing, video games, purses, shoes, jewelry etc). Having them on paper reminds you what you want to do and keeps them on your mind.

2. Commit. It takes it from a "good idea" to something you pour your heart and soul into. Something you strive for and desire.

3. Accountability. Get someone to ask you how it's going. When you know someone is watching you you're more likely to follow through

I have two goals this year.

1. Eat healthier, feel healthier, be healthier.
Game Plan:
-Eat a healthy Breakfast
-Eat less frozen meals (those are packed with salt and preservatives)
-To mentally feel healthy do things I enjoy such as scrapbooking, reading, writing, etc
-Pull myself off the couch and go for a walk even if it's only to go around the block for some fresh air.
-Get my allergy tests (Then I can avoid unhealthy situations)

2. Go on a trip.
Game Plan:
-save money (figure out my "wants" and "needs")
-renew my passport

Two attainable goals that I will strive towards! (Hopefully for longer than one week!)
